PODGORICA, 1 February, 2008 - The OSCE Mission to Montenegro expressed its concern today about the continuing failure to provide the Council of public broadcaster RTCG with an effective quorum in accordance with the Law, so that it can resume its work.

Article 97 of the Broadcasting Law stipulates that "The regulations of the presentation of political parties, coalitions, and candidates with accepted election lists and candidates shall be adopted by the Council of the Public Broadcasting Service."

"The situation is of particular concern as the country is about to enter the campaign for the presidential elections," Ambassador Paraschiva Badescu, Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro said.

The OSCE Mission to Montenegro calls on the responsible Montenegrin institutions to do their utmost in taking all necessary steps, in respect for the law, to ensure the effective functioning of the RTCG Council.
